India

Country Profile

Located in the northern hemisphere, India is the second most populated country globally, housing a staggering 1.3 billion residents, the country became official on August 15,1947. The Asian country experiences a generally warmer climate year-round, winters being around 29℃ and summers reaching a scorching 41℃. But contrary to the generally summery weather, the north religion finds itself encased in snowfall usually during the months of December-February, making for a picturesque view of powdery white mountains and snow covered vegetation. Regarding religion, Buddhism and Hinduism are both said to have originated in India, the latter being practiced by a majority of Indian citizens; other commonly practiced religions of the area include Islam, Christianity, Sikhism, and Jainism. The artistic side of the nation resides in the exquisite architectural wonders such as the Taj Mahal, the marble mausoleum that took around 21 years to build in the mid 17th century, and the Konark Sun Temple, a 13th century temple dedicated to Surya, the deity of the Sun in Hinduism.

Our Efforts

Problems Observed

Within India, millions of orphan children can be found, a majority of them never getting the chance to be adopted. Educational disadvantages throughout early life disproportionately affect orphans, street children, and those residing in slums. In addition, alarmingly high (and increasing) rates of child labour, those involved being granted little to no access to an education. 8.1 million children in India are not educated in a school setting.

Our Response

General Summary of our work: In India we have instilled programs and educational opportunities, primarily to support orphans, street children, and children living in slums. Holding conferences to support women to empower them and equip them with proper knowledge regarding hygiene and health. Providing an online accessible education and resources to children to allow them equal opportunities regardless of their economic status. Importance of our work section and some of the impacts: We have raised funding to support the building of a library in India, allowing educational resources to be distributed equally. Our courses varying from STEM education to public speaking inspire and educate students around the country.
